More than 90 golfers teed off in Mercy Haven’s recent golf outing, helping the Islip Terrace nonprofit raise nearly $80,000 – a record tally for the 13-year-old event.
About 30 percent of the attendees were new to the event, which will benefit Mercy Haven’s work in providing short-term and permanent housing and supportive services to Long Islanders living in poverty or with mental illness.
Among the event’s supporters was Long Island Ducks owner and former New York Met Bud Harrelson, who raffled off the use of a luxury box during a 2012 Ducks game to the winner of a “closest to the pin” contest, in which he participated.
Islandia-based Empire National Bank sponsored the event for the fifth consecutive year.
