“Growing Together” Community Garden: Cultivating Food, Connection, and Hope
The “Growing Together” Community Garden is more than just a place to grow fresh, healthy food—it’s a space where Mercy Haven residents and community members come together to nurture both body and spirit. Gardening has been shown to stimulate thought, encourage physical activity, and foster a deeper connection to nature, making it a powerful tool for healing and renewal. Participants see the garden as a symbol of hope, growth, and possibility.
Located at Pleasant Gardens Adult Home in Bayport, the garden thrives with the help of dedicated volunteers and growers who tend to the expanding number of beds throughout the seasons. The food harvested goes directly from the garden to the tables of those who cultivate it, ensuring access to fresh, nutritious meals. Additionally, 10% of the harvest is donated to local food pantries, helping to support some of the community’s most vulnerable residents.

Gardening represents the potential for good in our world, amongst so much bad; it represents the hopes and dreams of people from all walks of life, all people … I hope the garden project was as fruitful and spiritual to others as it was to me.
