Large expansion of life-changing services on Long Island supported by a Grant of the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation
Jan. 18, 2023 – Islip Terrace, NY – Mercy Haven, Inc. was awarded $75,000 by the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation to support a 20% increase in residents under their care in 2023. Mercy Haven provides housing & supportive services that provide the stability, health support, and life skill coaching needed for crisis populations to recover. Currently housing 304 adults and children across Long Island, Mercy Haven’s recently developed homes will add another 63 people in-need to their circle of care.
“When we develop homes, that is the first piece of a much larger puzzle” said S. Patricia Griffith, Executive Director of Mercy Haven, “Housing is the first step to ending homelessness. The support and advocacy our staff provide allow for our residents’ stability and personal development. In order for us to do this, we rely on, and seek support from, understanding donors like the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation.”
This funding will support the staff and service expansion for Mercy Haven’s latest project of totally new construction which will provide homes for 28 adults and children, a large percentage of which are living with a disability. Additionally, the agency purchased and renovated three more multi-family homes in Suffolk County to house 8 families fleeing from domestic violence – an expanding population to their housing. Residents will be provided life skills development, legal advocacy services, child & family intervention, emotional support, employment opportunities, peer support groups, and recreation.
