Mercy Haven Receives Neighborhood Builders Grant from Bank of America

NEWS:
On Thursday, December 10, Mercy Haven was named as one of two recipients on Long Island of Bank of America’s Neighborhood Builders Award. This award includes $200,000 in flexible funding over two years and leadership training for the agency’s Executive Director and an emerging leader.

DESCRIPTION:
Mercy Haven received the prestigious Neighborhood Builders Award after a competitive, invitation-only application process. The award recognizes Mercy Haven’s contributions to the community as provider of housing and support services to those who are homeless and living with mental illness.

“We are honored to receive this award and be recognized as a high-performing nonprofit that makes a significant impact in the community,” said Executive Director, Sister Pat Griffith. “We plan to use the funds to support our existing programs and provide bridge funds as we enter into our newest project, a $5 million, 16-unit apartment complex. This funding is a tremendous help in serving Long Islanders in need.”

In addition to funding, Sister Pat and another Mercy Haven staff member designated as an “emerging leader” will also take part in a series of leadership training sessions throughout 2016 as part of the award. “The opportunity for us to join non-profit leaders from across the nation for training is outstanding and will further strengthen our agency.”

Bank of America’s Neighborhood Builders program provides grants and leadership development to nonprofits, and helps them build a stronger presence in their communities. This investment builds on the company’s philanthropic commitment to help address community development, basic human services, workforce development and education.

“By providing nonprofits with leadership development, as well as $200,000 in flexible funding, we’re helping them grow strategically and address important local issues,” said Bob Isaksen, Long Island president, Bank of America. “Through the Neighborhood Builders program we’re leveraging the full resources of our company to help nonprofit leaders tackle issues in Long Island communities that will ultimately help residents achieve financially stability.”
