"Growing Together" Community Garden

Garden Update

The third season of Mercy Haven's Growing Together Community Garden is drawing to a close and by all accounts, the endeavor was a great success! This effort brought together groups from the Brentwood and Bay Shore Communities and residents of Mercy Haven to create a garden that feeds both body and spirit.

Located at Mercy Enrichment in Brentwood, the garden came to life through the efforts of more than a dozen community groups. The five-season total was more than 4,000 pounds of produce! This healthy food went right from the garden to the table of garden members and some of the community's most vulnerable residents. This was accomplished by a pledge made by each garden member group  to donate 5% of their bounty to local food pantries.

Growth and transformation took place within garden participants as well as within the earth of our garden beds. Tom, one of our avid garden members, recently shared what Growing Together has meant to him: “Gardening represents the potential for good in our world, amongst so much bad; it represents the hopes and dreams of people from all walks of life, all people…I hope the garden project was as fruitful and spiritual to others as it was to me.”
