Joseph Mercurio
Director of Business Management
"Begin with the end in mind" is a philosophy that Joseph
Mercurio keeps in his thoughts while working to better Mercy
Haven's programs. He particularly likes knowing that success
in the not-for-profit world is measured in the number of lives
that he can change. What he likes best about working at Mercy
Haven is that he is a part of a team that "is developing
business solutions to ensure the future success of Mercy
Haven." What Mercurio likes best about MH is the mission, the
people, and the day-to-day challenges.
Carla Olzinski
Director of Human Resources
"I enjoy the opportunity of providing able-minded, caring
employees to render services to our population while
promoting continuity of care and improving the well-being of
the community we serve," explains Carla Olzinksi. "Since the
employees hold such a wide base of knowledge, we have the
ability to expand our services to new and diverse populations
while providing the specialized care that we are known for." A
view on life that Carla keeps in mind is: "Exhibit pride!
Demonstrate praise! Display enthusiasm!"
Rochelle Kelly-Perry Thomas
Director of Program Development
"My professional career has been all about making a
difference in the lives of vulnerable people. I have never been
guided by the higher salaries of the corporate world, but by the
desire to strengthen families, burdened by the challenges,"
says Rochelle KP Thomas. What Thomas likes best about her
job as the Director of Program Development is that it offers her
the ability "to explore new activities, ventures and options for
Mercy Haven as they become available and make sense to the
mission."
Imran Ahmad
Director of MIS (Management Information Systems)
Imran Ahmad joined with Mercy Haven because it offered him
an opportunity to step out of the technical environment, and
really use his skills for a greater good. What he enjoys most
about his position as Director of MIS is that it allows him to
integrate technology for the agency in an effort to simplify the
workings of Mercy Haven. Ahmad sees the future of the agency
resulting in broader services to help all at-risk residents of
Long Island. A saying that he likes to keep in mind is that "from
what we get, we can make a living; what we give, however,
makes a life."
Jeffrey enjoys his position as Director of Finance
because it allows him to work with a dedicated and competent
staff to overcome the challenges presented in today's
accounting and financial field. He believes that Mercy Haven
has a very bright future because "we are proactive in
streamlining our business practices without compromising
our mission and the quality of the service we provide." Jeff
chose to work in the not-for-profit field because he feels that
his position is more than just an average job; he enjoys the
fact that Mercy Haven helps the diverse population of at-risk
individuals of Long Island.
Jeffrey Bogdan
Director of Finance
Lorrie Oricoli
Director of Residential Services
John Castellano
Director & Attorney in Charge - MAP/Legal Advocacy
What Lorrie Oricoli likes best about being a part of Mercy
Haven is that she belongs to a team that has the ability to affect
change for so many people. "What I like best about my job is
working with such talented, caring and knowledgeable people
who continually give a 100 percent to the job and truly care
about the mission of the agency," she says. As for why she
chose a not-for-profit corporation Oricoli explains that "I don’t
think I made a distinction between profits vs. not-for-profit; my
ultimate objective was to be part of an organization that could
provide positive changes to those who need it most."
"What I like most about MH is our ability to provide desperately
needed, safe and affordable housing to the poor, particularly
those living with a serious and persistent mental illness
and/or the impairments of advanced age," says Castellano.
Having focused his 30 year career in law on the needs of the
poor and underserved, he provides free legal services to a
population, virtually without access to counsel. A philosophy
that he lives by is that "whatever you do for the least of my
sisters and brothers, you do unto Me."
Joanna Corbin
Director of Marketing
Joanna Corbin joined Mercy Haven because she did not want
to be a spectator any longer. What she enjoys most about her
position is that she works "with a group of people that affect
positive change in our community," a team whose work
continues to impact the lives of future generations. She sees a
very positive future for Mercy Haven, with the agency expanding
and becoming the model for advocacy programs. Her favorite
quote was said by Benjamin Franklin: "Life's tragedy is that we
get old too soon and wise too late."
