MH Strategic Planning
After months of serious discussions, planning and input from board, staff, volunteers, program participants and the international
consultant firm RSM McGladrey, Mercy Haven completed our three year strategic plan.

The strategic plan is broken into five strategic initiatives, which are:

    • Continuous process improvement (CPI)
    • Financial sustainability
    • Fundraising
    • Programs and services
    • Leadership

These initiatives have unique and independent strategy statements and are broken down into detailed goals with corresponding
objectives and tasks. Committees consisting of board members, staff and local volunteers will provide oversight to ensure
established deadlines are realized.

The final plan was launched in the summer of 2007, and work quickly began on addressing the milestones, which included
upgrading the Information Technologies infrastructure to improve performance, reliability and security, the migration of MH’s current
donor data base, consolidation of finance management software to a new Sage software package, integration of a new mission
statement, and the launch of an updated website. All of which are on target to be completed per the established deadline. Some of
the 2008 objective goals include the creation of a development committee, training and retraining of staff on policies and compliance
practices, detailed evaluation of grant writing process and residential program opportunities.

Where will this take us in three years?
Mercy Haven will have a stronger community presence by strengthening and expanding specific programs and engaging the public
in new and innovative activities. Through thoughtful governance and management, the agency will have:

    • Improved its financial sustainability;
    • Facilitated the development of strong and effective leaders;
    • Built a solid infrastructure for growing programs and promoting new initiatives;
    • Increased awareness of the organization’s mission;
    • Instilled deeper support among all involved;
    • Cultivated stronger roots in the community served; and

“This is an exciting time for Mercy Haven because the Strategic Plan will focus the work of the agency where it can make the greatest
impact and encourage others to join the mission,” stated one of the staff members.
