News: Islip Terrace, NY, August 2008 – Mercy Haven, Inc. received $15,000 between two grants from the Nassau County Bar Association's WE CARE Fund to enhance and expand its Legal Advocacy Program.

On Wednesday, May 28th, Mercy Haven received a $10,000 grant check for its Legal Advocacy Program. The grant was presented to the agency’s Director and Attorney-in-Charge John Castellano by President-Elect of the Nassau County Bar Association Emily Franchina. Additionally, on Wednesday, August 6th, the Legal Advocacy Program received a $5,000 grant from the WE CARE Fund, the charitable arm of the Nassau County Bar Association, presented by Owen Walsh of Oyster Bay, an Advisory Board member of the WE CARE Fund. On Long Island, there is no other agency that has a built-in Legal Advocacy Program for their participants like Mercy Haven. The Program, intended to be a three year pilot project, opened its doors on October 27, 1997. The program is now in its 11th year, and has opened over 1,700 cases.
