Ongoing Education to the Local Communities We Serve:
Many communities have asked for ongoing education in the areas of mental health, understanding disabilities and
entitlements, and advocating for loved ones with special needs.

Outreach to the Families of Our Program Participants
Another group for whom we would like to offer additional services is those who are the significant supporters of the persons
who participate in our current programs. We would like to begin an outreach to them that will be mutually beneficial.

Mercy Volunteer Program (MVP) Will Continue to Develop a Core of Volunteers to Enhance Our Services
We intend to increase the number of our volunteers for participation in both our present programs and in establishing our
education programs for persons with a history of homelessness.

"Breakthrough"
The program will provide the opportunity for life skills development for the homeless, and will replicate a successful NYC program
established by the Interfaith Assembly of Homelessness and Housing.
  • At the core of this program is a 12 week, 24 session group of classes offered to 12-15 homeless individuals at a time.
Through a process of education and developing their own stories, our goal is to assist participants to understand the factors
that have contributed to their homelessness, to develop needed life skills to break the cycle of homelessness, and to
engage in a relationship with trained mentors who will companion participants in the establishment of realistic and
    achievable personal goals.
  • While attending the course, participants will receive a stipend for each class taken enabling them to develop a better sense
of their own worth and of the process of responsibility and compensation experienced in an employment situation. In
addition, sessions will provide opportunity for socialization and a healthy, hot meal will be provided. After the formal program,
support groups will be offered on a monthly basis and the relationship with the mentors around goals will continue.
Mercy Haven's mission is to acknowledge the dignity and potential of people who are
homeless, living with mental illness or living in poverty by providing housing,
advocacy, education and life skills development.
