What is a Community Residence (CR)?
A Community Residence (CR) is a program licensed by the NYS Office of
Mental Health, which houses individuals with mental illness. A Community
Residence provides 24-hour on-site staff supervision as well as training and
support in Restorative Services.
What is expected of a CR participant?
  • Cooperation in applying for all necessary entitlements  
  • Development of necessary linkages within the community to access
    needed support services
  • Working with co-residents in creating a mutually satisfying living experience
  • Responsible upkeep of one's bedroom and common areas of the house
  • Reliance on staff when help is needed
  • Participation in Residence Meetings
  • Planning for skill development in order to live more independently
What can a CR participant expect?
  • A unique living experience which provides safe and comfortable housing
    enhanced by staff assistance
  • Assistance with Daily Living Skills
  • Opportunities for recreation and socialization
  • Medication Management Training
  • Access to community services including case management, psychiatric
    support services and health/dental linkages
  • Assistance in development of self- advocacy and Empowerment skills
  • Participation in Resident Empowerment and Achievement Program (R.E.A.P.)
  • Opportunities in our Supportive Employment Program
  • Discharge planning for eventual movement to a more independent level of care
  • Individuals who are living with mental illness (Axis I Diagnosis)
  • Individuals who are abstinent from drugs and alcohol
