Leonardo Tavera
Back to the Board of Directors Page
"The best way to teach someone is through example,"
Leonardo Tavera explains. Proud father of a 4-year-old and a
newborn, he feels that it is everyone's duty to serve their
community in one way or another. An Internal Auditor for Bank Of Smithtown, Tavera chose to be a part of Mercy Haven's Board of Directors because from the beginnings of the organization to the present, "the raw energy and hunger to help those in need has not dwindled or been lost in the growth of the organization, but has instead flourished." His most memorable moment with the agency was when he was allowed the opportunity to tour one of the
homes. "I was impressed not only by the facilities and people, but the overall vibe," he says.
Mercy Haven's mission is to acknowledge the dignity and potential of people who are
homeless, living with mental illness or living in poverty by providing housing,
advocacy, education and life skills development.
